In an effort to publish more on this space, I’m adding a segment here called Dear Diary, which will be a more personal extension of content you might find on my social media and in my room reveals. More like catching up with a friend about a random assortment of topics if you will. I share my home here, but I want to share a bit more as well.
This year (the 24 days of it thus far) has really forced me to lean in to the purpose of winter which has been to hibernate, rest, and recharge. Sure the flu and a cold spell forced us to retreat into our home, but I’ve rarely left the house these weeks, and it’s been a lovely reminder of what the winter season really should be. Not the rise-and-grind hustle culture that often comes with messaging around the new year, but the soft and slow entry into the new year where you bundle up inside and don’t go out after dinnertime.
Projects We’ve Been Working On: We’ve been (sort of) working on our living room project, which currently consists of building the wooden bookshelves that will be built in in the living room. Because it’s been so cold, time has been few and far between to work outside in the garage, but it’s coming along. Once the bookshelves are installed and the majority of the work moves inside, we won’t be as dependent on the weather and able to really get moving.
What We’ve Been Watching: We binge watched The Day of the Jackal in a handful of evenings staying up way later than we normally do, because each night we just HAD to watch one more episode. It’s a suspenseful/action type show, which isn’t usually my thing, but the fashion and the all-over-Europe setting was gorgeous and the storyline kept my attention. Definitely worth checking out if you’re needing a show to get into.
What I’ve Been Wearing: I have to admit that I’ve never in my 32 years before this winter owned cashmere. I am a changed woman. I’ve been living in this sweater all winter long, which feels more comfortable than a sweatshirt but is much more put together looking. That and this lipstick has me feeling like I have my stuff together even though the only place I’m going is out to the school pickup line.
What’s On My Thrift List: Currently I’m on the hunt for a small bookshelf for my son’s room. He’s getting to an age where he wants to display some of his lego creations and school crafts and whatnot, and he really doesn’t have a space for that. I’m keeping my eyes out for a bookshelf for his space.
What My Kids are Into: My kids have reached a new milestone where I can take my eyes off of them for short periods of time without worry. As we’ve been working on building the bookcases, the kids are running around, but less dependent on us. We’ve had babies under two the entire time we’ve lived in our home, and this feels like a milestone I didn’t know existed. One thing that keeps the older ones occupied for long periods of time are these paint by sticker books. My mom had a few out around Christmas and they were a big hit with the kids and adults alike. My four year old is just about able to do them independently, and I find myself working on them at times. It’s similar to puzzling in a quiet, mind quieting way.
